Eminent Speaker Tours
The Maintenance Engineering Society of Australia presents an Internationally Eminent Speaker Tour each year as a benefit to members and their colleagues throughout Australia and where possible, New Zealand. In summary, MESA invites a person of world eminence in maintenance engineering, reliability and asset capability management to visit Australia and undertake a tour of all chapters to make a presentation, (lecture, workshop, seminar) to each, and if the opportunity arises, to make visits to local industry.
The National Council initiates action each year and approves the proposed speaker. The Deputy National Chairman in conjunction with one Chapter organises the tour with the speaker and in cooperation with all other Chapters including where possible the New Zealand Maintenance Engineering Society (MESNZ).
MESA makes all arrangements for the tour including economy air to and from Australia, internal flights, transfers, 4-star or equivalent accommodation, travel to and from venues and quiet social activities. Internal flights are usually arranged without any turn-back and are booked overseas or in Australia depending on prices.
At each Chapter it is the MESA practice to meet the speaker on arrival at the airport, and to escort the speaker throughout the tour, except where the speaker has private social arrangements, and see the speaker onto the next flight on the itinerary. Arrangements to see the local points of interest (community or industrial) are usually included according to local need and the speaker's wishes.
MESA Chapters make a charge for attendance at the presentation (there is usually a member to non-member differential). Advertising the tour is carried out on two levels. At the corporate level, the organising chapter in conjunction with MESA Executive and the Public Officer arranges for a shell poster in one colour. This shell is over printed first for central mail out (MESA members via the Journal, MESA selected lists) and then by chapters over printing and mailing for their individual event.
