"Mooring and Riser System Design for Offshore Oil & Gas Floating Production Systems"

Speaker:
Christopher Carra
Director, AMOG Consulting Pty Ltd

As exploration for oil and gas has moved offshore into remote or deep water locations, project economics have driven a range of different solutions based on floating offshore production platforms. These solutions have many advantages, but there have also been significant challenges. This presentation will give an overview of current developments in mooring system technology and riser system technology, both of which are key to the successful operation of floating production systems. The presentation will provide a brief overview of the historical development of floating production systems; an introduction to the theoretical background of mooring and riser system design; a state-of-the-art review of current mooring and riser system designs; and a discussion on the key challenges currently faced by designers.

Christopher Carra is a director of AMOG Consulting, a specialist engineering consultancy providing design and analysis services for the offshore oil and gas industry. Christopher has 19 years experience in the design of floating production systems, including significant involvement in the design of the early tanker based systems installed off northern Australia, as well as internationally in the deep water Gulf of Mexico.
