The NSW government is one of the largest asset owners in the country. How does NSW treasury view assets and asset management? What challenges do we face in the future to finance and manage our asset replacements? What are the current and future directions in asset management?
Ed Shestovsky is the Director of the Asset Management & Procurement Branch in NSW Treasury. Ed is a recycled civil engineer with a long background in developing contact establishment and management practices for the procurement of government infrastructure. Among his achievements in this role were membership of a Standards Australia subcommittee which developed the AS4000 suite of standard form contracts and development of the Security of Payment legislation. Ed was relocated to NSW Treasury from the Department of Commerce 3 years ago to head up a new Branch with the objective of implementing whole-of-government policies and practices directed at improving the management of the State’s physical assets by government agencies. His key challenge was to improve the effectiveness of the existing Total Asset Management policy as the key driver to achieve this objective.
